Kirjaston ystävät (Friends of the Library) group gathered again

The City Library of Iisalmi has run its own project called Kirjasto ihmisten keskellä (Library amidst people) during years 2012–2013. One aim of the project was to increase the customers’ participation in the library functions. To support this, a customer group Kirjaston ystävät (Friends of the Library) was formed and has gathered together three times. The latest meeting was 9.12.2013.

Although the number of participants of the group has been quite modest, the discussion has flourished. The meetings’ subjects focused mostly on the library’s collections, events and current projects of the library and the library services. In the latest meeting, the collection was seen vast and all necessary items had been found. For example, additions to the library’s audio book collection were wished for and later fulfilled.

Also, one of the subjects has been the future of current library. The group reminded about the importance of free public library services, but the future of the library was seen altogether bright because the collections provide always new and interesting items for customers. Although library competes from people’s free time as one domain, there will always be new customers who want to explore the existing library collection through and through.

The group has worked as a bridge between the library customers and staff, and the wishes of the public have reached the ears of the librarians via group meetings.
