Then we were taken on a tour to the Iisalmi Cultural Centre http://www.iisalmi.fi/In-english/Services/Cultural-Services . We learned about the operational environment and the different operators in the Centre. The guests had a chance to learn how to play the Finnish zither (kantele) and how to freely improvise while playing. The teacher of Finnish zither told about the history of the instrument and about the meaning of kantele to the Finns. How inspirational – the music really is universal language!
After the musical moment, we took a tour to the Nature Museum on the lowest floor of the Cultural Centre. There is a permanent display of the Finnish nature including typical wild animals such as squirrels, butterflies, ducks and many more.
