On Tuesday, we got to experience Vorarlberg´s environment – the natural, as well as the library one. We started with a visit to the public library in Schwarzenberg, where the participants first got a glimpse into the work of library volunteers in Vorarlberg.
Afterwards, we went to the Angelika Kauffmann museum. There, we heard about her dips into the literary world and the artistic circle she surrounded herself with, including Goethe and Herder.
In the afternoon, we had a short trip to Metzlers farm to get an idea about the spirit of Vorarlberg. We not only got to see one of the best examples for the importance that Vorarlberg places on sustainability, but also on how it tries (quite successfully, I might add) to combine tradition with modernity.
Later, we went to the Mediathek in Krumbach and saw another take on volunteer library work. There, we also got to hear oral as well as written stories for adults from our partners from Spain, Poland and Turkey. Thank you so much for sharing your ideas and talents with us!
In the early evening, we went to Vorarlberg´s biggest library: the Vorarlberger Landesbibliothek, which is the county´s scientific library that is also entrusted with collecting all publications with a relationship to the region. We also heard about the different kinds of education for librarians in Austria.
